Lucid Motors and Syrah Resources have signed a agreement to supply natural graphite active anode material from Syrah’s advanced Vidalia facility in the USA, marking a pivotal partnership in the electric vehicle industry. This collaboration aims to enhance Lucid Motors’ production capabilities by ensuring a consistent and high-quality source of anode material, which is crucial for their cutting-edge battery technology. As the demand for electric vehicles continues to rise, both companies are committed to sustainable practices and innovative solutions, thereby contributing to the growth of the renewable energy sector and supporting the global transition towards more sustainable transportation options.

The agreement, lasting three years, purchasing around 7kt of AAM, with deliveries starting in January 2026.Syrah’s Vidalia facility can produce approximately 11.25KT annually, and the Tesla Model 3 battery requires about 100 pounds per vehicle, meaning 7kt is sufficient for 154,000 vehicles each year.

The collaboration underscores the importance of establishing a reliable non-Chinese source of graphite for battery manufacturing, as the global demand for electric vehicles and renewable energy storage solutions continues to rise. This strategic partnership not only aims to diversify the supply chain but also seeks to enhance sustainability in sourcing raw materials, ultimately reducing dependence on a single country.

This marks the second graphite contract that Lucid has secured over the past year. Last July they announced a contract with Graphite One to help secure a future Graphite supply chain non reliant on China.
